Marilyn’s Corner Café

The Corner Café has been a fixture in Parkersburg for over 35 years.
Originally in an old house just down the street one block, Marilyn moved about 5 years ago into an old gas station along Staunton Ave, a main thoroughfare through the area.
At first sight, I was tempted to pass, but my wife convinced me to stop. I am very glad I did. LESSON LEARNED: Don’t judge a book by it’s cover.
Directions: Rt 50 – Exit on Staunton Ave (about 2 or 3 miles west of the I-77/Rt 50 interchange)
Go north on Staunton Ave not quite a mile and it’s on the right.
The plain exterior gives little indication of the great restaurant waiting inside.
Hmmm… good recommendation.
As soon as we walked inside, I knew it was going to be good. Very clean! Very friendly atmosphere.
Sit along the bar (next to the pies!) and eat if you are so inclined.
Cowboy Bob must have enjoyed his meals here.
The owner, Marilyn Plum (L) and her grand-daughter Madelyn, who was also helping out.
They were both busy baking several Pineapple-Upside-Down cakes for a church. Mmmmmm.
Melissa (L) and Brittany (R) gave friendly, quick service with big smiles!
I decided to go healthy and ordered a grilled chicken sandwich. Delicious!
Look at the fresh lettuce and tomato! And the big cucumber!
Beth ordered just a hamburger, but it, too, was cooked just right. Done, but still juicy.
Here’s the hardest test for a restaurant – onion rings. Hard to get just right.
These were PERFECT! Krispy outside, with big pieces of juicy onions inside.
Less than half of the restaurants we eat in get these right. GREAT JOB!
