Legends Family Grill
Rt 20 South – Buckhannon
(Original Menu from Stardust Drive In – circa 1960s)
I saw this restaurant out of the corner of my eye while driving through Buckhannon in early April 2012. My wife wanted to stop at the Hallmark card store nearby, so I circled back to check it out. Looked great, so we decided to have lunch here. The owner, Susie Hyre, told me her family used to run the Stardust Drive In that was located on the interchange where Wal-Mart and several other stores are now. Running restaurants is in their genes. They just opened this restaurant the 1st week of April 2012.
Located on Rt 20 south, about a mile from downtown. Next to Go-Mart gas station.
Nice and clean – very welcoming feeling walking in.
When she found out I was writing a review for RidingWV.com, Susie told me she and her husband Mike ride. This old plaque was inside the door.
So many choices.
We decided to order a chicken fingers dinner and a fish & chips dinner.
Chicken Planks Dinner. Although prepared very well, they were basically what you heat up out of a box in the frozen food section at Kroger.
The onion rings were done just right, which is tough to do! Was it worth $6.99? I don’t think so.
My wife’s Fish & Chips were definitely right out of a Morton’s frozen fish box. We had talked earlier about getting fish at CJ Maggies downtown, where the 2 large cod filets are fresh and hand-breaded, and only a dollar more.
I guess we had our sights set higher. For $6.99, I was disappointed. The food was prepared well, but the basic ingredients were cheap.
The restaurant itself is very welcoming and the staff was very courteous and friendly.
